Abstract
There is strong evidence that interdisciplinary teamwork promotes creativity, and produces high impact transformational research. However, collaborative efforts still have large communication and coordination costs and remain challenging. This paper explores some of the reasons behind the costs and challenges of interdisciplinary collaborations. It also offers some guidelines for building successful collective efforts in creativeIT. The guidelines are based on, and supported by, previous work, work at other institutions and experiences from the building and everyday operation of the Arts, Media and Engineering program at ASU.
