Assignment 10

February 24, 2002

Assignment 10

1) What did you find interesting about the article?

There were a lot of interesting things about the article. The statement: "Cultures are substantially defined by their media and their tools for thinking, working, learning, and collaborating", was one of many comments in the article that caught my attention.

2) Not interesting about the article?

Since i have already heard about the EDC it was repetative to read about it again in this article.

3) What do you consider the main message of the article?

With the advances and changes in technologie and mulimedia, there needs to be a change in view of education. Culture must begin to recognize education beyond the institution sense of the world. Education must becoem more of a lifelong activity as opposed to something that happens in the beginning of life. And with this change in the view of education people will transform from the mind-set of consumers to contributors.

4) Describe in detail your mindset about learning?

Learning to me is something that happens on an individual basis. It is not possible to generalize learning and find a common means amoung humans for learning. I believe that most learning takes place outside of the classroom. I also believe that learning is a mind set. Kind of like "you can lead the horse to water, but you can't force it to drink".

5) How did you develop it?

My Parents.

6) When did you develop it?

Over the course of my 21 years on this earth.

7) Did you ever change it? what made you change your mindset?

Yeah it is kind of an ongoing development.

8) Has our course ("Design, Learning, and Collaboration") so far influenced in any way your mindset about learning?

NO

9) What is the impact of media / technologies (e.g., computers) on the formation of mindset – if any?

I think that media and technology speeds up our life style and makes it more convenient. In some sense it makes information more available, but not completely. There is still a large portion of the world that doesn't have access to technology. I think in some sense it creates a bigger divide in mindset.
