This is what some middle school students articulated, when I asked them what THEY might include if they designed and developed a computer game:


























































































































































































































































# Boys' Recommendations (B) Who Girls' Recommendations (G)
1 - G Sports based (including, tennis, football, basketball, baseball and badminton)
2 - G Available online, to connect with other computers and people around the world
3 - G Be a fair game, so nobody feels like it was "cheap" or they lost
4 - G One could win, no matter what
5 - G One is able to communicate with other players, but no swear words
6 - G One could get better and learn new "tricks" by visiting a practice field
7 - G There is a definite criteria for winning
8 - G Pick theme songs for different projects/missions
9 - G Incorporate music/sound effect of some kind, like in Skydiver
10 - G Learn something in a fun way
11 - G Include some kind of race
12 - G Include some kind of fashion show
13 - G Family-based "reality" game
14 - G Hitting whatever
15 - G Have it on a park/stage
16 - G & B Include more freedom, so players have ability to anything in game
17 Include several missions, so players could go along different paths B -
18 Scenario - Try to retrieve stolen stuff B -
19 Meet together at some spot between missions B -
20 Players from different planet/world and need to design a machine to go any where they want B -
21 Lost and have to find way back home B -
22 Following directions from someone who appears to be a good person, but in the end find out the person had bad intentions and try to remedy the damage done B -
23 Have an owner, but trying to run away from the group into a different world to prevent them from catching player(s) B -
24 Find relics in own world and use them to go into portals and take them into Nexus B -
25 Have different views and perspectives, not just the players B -
26 Make the game open ended B -
27 Design it so that players are free to roam wherever they need to go, and make the boundaries invisible B -
28 Take back lost territory B -
29 Make it multiplayer games B -
30 Make it like Schools Out, so players can run around, pick up stuff, and so on B -
31 Include more choices and things to do for players (change dress, players' appearance, etc.), like Runscape B -
32 Gain more access to do stuff as players advance in levels B -
33 Design a better car to get to specific places B -
34 See in third person, beyond the players, because of better perspective and thus making it more fun B -
