Okay, what will we do?
Let's list some possible topics
- How can systems introduced in the class take their places in "Organizing Genius" stories? For example, what if XEROX PARC had LivingOM-like hypermedia system? What about CodeBroker in Apple? How EDC can fit in Manhattan Project?
These what-if's are non-sense because they are against technological history, but we can still point out what essential activities of "Organizing Genius" can be supported by those systems.
- Pick some open source projects and compare with "Organizing Genius" stories. This would be a kind of survey study.
- How can technologies or theories be leveraged to make creation of "Great Groups" easier? Or can these technologies make regular groups of people work as well as Great Groups do?
Here's merged idea
- We have technologies introduced in the class.
- We have papers which describe background theories of those systems.
- We can compare(sorry, I don't know an exact verb to mean this) those systems with stories in the book.
- Those comparisions will provide new contexts and interpretations of the systems and their background theories.
- Then we can contrast supporting ordinary good groups and extraordinary great groups.
I like the above ideas. My only suggestion is that we should consider a project whose resource or data we can easily collect and analyze. Of course, we should try to bring more insight and originality to the project at the same time. I think Merged idea is an interesting one. Maybe We should development our project proposal based on it. For example, we make survey a group of typical examples of outstanding collaboration in different fields to see how these activities fit into the coptemporary theories or models about collaboration, can these examples give us some new insights. How can we use these theories or models to study and analyze our examples and find the common points among them. Last, how can we use and apply what we conclude in a hypothetical environment or a real situation like EDC. As the example in the book, we might any kinds of examples that meet our purposes
