Hawkins is a philosopher and theorist who writes about learning and education. I read a couple of the essays in this book last summer and I was reminded of them when I began this apprenticeship.

I guess the question I had was about the differences between courses-as-seeds and traditional education and about how our (students')socialization into traditional classrooms might create obstacles to courses-as-seeds' success.

The essays I've read so far haven't been as much about classroom socialization as much as I had remembered but have said some other interesting things. One thing in particular is the link between motivation and the dichotemy of passive knowledge absorbtion vs. active construction, or consumer vs. designer mindset.
