Hello there, my name is Guy Cobb and I'm currently (as of fall 2007) a first year Ph.D. student in Computer Science. My interests are mostly in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, though in general my interests are rather broad. I graduated in fall 2006 from Indiana University with a double major in CS and Math. I wanted to do something that made use of both, and after having done a little bit of undergraduate research in NA I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted to study in grad school.

For the moment, I'm mostly taking classes and an independent study with my advisor Dr. Cai. Relevant classes for fall 2007 are:
So far they have been very interesting and I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here.

We were asked as an initial assignment to complete a questionnaire. Here is mine:

Employment in a Globalized World (response)

Colloquia I have attended this semester (I've actually attended several, but here are the ones I decided to write up)

The Thrill of Discovery - Information Visualization for High-Dimensional Spaces

SPRUCE: An Infrastructure for Emergency, On-Demand, Urgent Computing

As part of the intro class, we were asked to read a dissertation and comment on it. I've been reading a dissertation as part of an independent study I have been doing with my advisor Xiao-Chuan Cai.
