1. Interesting about the article
I liked the section describing how difficult the transition is from school or a university to work. We have talked about this idea before, but the article argued that education needs to change in order to stress collaboration, creativity and distributed cognition. Schools teach their students how to solve predictable, and uniform promblems, unlike the real world non-linear problems people are more likely to face in their everyday lives.
2. Not so interesting about the article
I would say that most ideas expressed in this article are interesting. Maybe the section on how technologies are being used to simply mechanize old ways of doing things was less interesting because we have discussed that idea a number of times in class.
3. Main message of the article
The main message of the article was that lifelong learning, distributed cognition, and solving real-world problems are concepts that need to become incorporated into our current, traditional educational system.
4. My mindset about learning
I developed my original mindset about learning most likely through trial and error, or familiarization. When i was 5 I used to sit outside in my backyard with a hammer and break rocks so I could look at all the interesting and shiny colors that appeared inside of them. I used to do this by holding the rock with one hand and then hitting it with the hammer in my other hand. One time I hit my thumb so hard that I couldnt hold the rock i one place for a while. So, i changed my method to one in which I would sit on the ground and hold the rock between my feet and hit it with both hands on the hammer. This method proved much better for what I was trying to do. So as i became more familiar with the rock breaking process, I developed safer, and more efficient ways of destroying them.
When did I develop it
I most likely developed my mindset about learning very close to kindergarten. This was approximately the age of 5.
Did my mindset change
My mindset changed as I became more immersed in the classroom, and more comfortable with traditional teaching environments.
